Eaton announced on Tuesday a new line of advanced pyro fuses, included a dual-trigger version it says is safer and more reliable in electric vehicles (EVs).
A pyro fuse operates similarly to an airbag, Eaton says, using an igniter and propellant to separate the main busbar and disconnect power. The dual-trigger version incorporates a standalone backup trigger to enable it to separate short circuits without requiring an external command.

"The dual-trigger pyro fuse is a game-changer in EV safety, offering an additional fail-safe mechanism that enhances functional safety at the system level," says Kevin W. Heintz, global vice president and general manager for power distribution and protection at Eaton's Mobility Group North America. "With this technology, Eaton is delivering a superior solution that gives OEMs a greater confidence in vehicle reliability while setting us apart in the market."
The pyro fuses are offered along with the Bussmann series EV fuses and Breaktor circuit protection technology.
