The Hub Corporation has launched its Vytor Xtreme Duty Seal, bringing integrated lubricant filtration to heavy-duty wheel seals.
Backed by a five-year seal and brake-kit warranty, The Hub Corp., says Vytor features the patent-pending VXR Filter, which captures wear metals and abrasive particles down to four microns.
“Keeping contamination out of the wheel hub is essential,” says Chris Miller, president of The Hub Corporation, “but hub oil analyses consistently show that despite best efforts, particles still manage to make their way in. With Vytor, we’re raising the bar on what a wheel seal should do: filter out damaging contaminants that accelerate bearing and seal failure.”
TMC’s Recommended Practice 631C makes the need for maintaining clean lubricant clear: Contaminated oil will cause repeat seal failures in time if not replaced with new, clean oil. The RP also calls for inspecting lubricant for ferrous and non-ferrous particles, replacing contaminated oil, and flushing remaining metal debris from affected hubs.
The Hub Corp says Vytor uses HNBR material for high heat tolerance, wear resistance, and lasting sealing force. Its thicker construction and additional sealing beads provide greater surface contact against the spindle journal and hub bore. The seal installs by hand without a specialized driver, and each box includes a tube of Seal Prep lubricant to reduce installation friction and protect against dry-start wear, the company adds.
Vytor also builds on The Hub Corp’s Controlled Operating Environment approach to their wheel-end portfolio: defend against contaminant ingress, filter wear-causing particles inside the lubricant, and make maintenance faster and easier to perform. It complements the company’s Xtractor hub cap, which has a removable filter cartridge that streamlines lubricant inspection and service, the company says.
The Hub Corp is working with U.S. and Canadian distributors to bring Vytor to the aftermarket. The product line covers FF steer, R drive, TN trailer, and TP trailer applications. The product is available now and ships from the company’s warehouse in Dallas, the company says.
