Bendix offers safety insights at CTI Conference

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC will join other commercial vehicle industry leaders in sharing insight at the 9th International CTI (Car Training Institute) Conference, which will focus on commercial vehicles. Richard Beyer, vice president, engineering and R&D, and a member of the Bendix senior leadership team, will present “Current Heavy Vehicle Safety Systems.” He will outline the systems, discuss how drivers are key to their performance, and stress the importance of making effective use of information fleets can now access.
The conference will take place Nov. 13-14 in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Beyer’s presentation will focus on several onboard active safety systems available today, such as collision mitigation, full stability, lane departure warning, and tire pressure monitoring. Individually and collectively, such systems provide a wealth of valuable data that can be used to improve driver performance, fleet operations, and roadway safety.
“Safety systems today generate a large amount of raw data that must be transformed into actionable information before it can be used to improve highway safety or reduce significant cost,” Beyer said. “A back-office interface – such as an easy-to-navigate website like SafetyDirect® from Bendix CVS – helps fleet safety and risk managers target potential areas of concern or reward for their vehicles, on their routes, and with their drivers. It enables them to reinforce excellent driving practices and develop ongoing driver training targeted to the issues revealed by the data.”

An effective back-office interface can also provide context around severe events or trends as never before, allowing for quick analysis of complex data. While J1939 data provides the “what” aspect of a severe event, video recorded by a safety system – such as lane departure warning technology, which utilizes a camera – provides more of the “why” the event occurred.
Beyer noted that while fleets will always rely on comprehensive driver training and alert, safe drivers practicing safe driving habits, active safety technologies are powerful tools to help drivers and everyone on the highways reach their destinations safely.

“This conference provides a great opportunity for the commercial vehicle industry to continue to build its collective understanding of the issues that are driving fleets worldwide,” Beyer said. “Bendix is glad to offer our perspective on the benefits of safety solutions that not only provide value to our customers, but provide drivers and fleets with the tools to do their jobs as safely as possible.”
