Uwy In Used Trucks On The Road

ACT Research says it's January data shows used Class 8 retail truck sales are sliding again.

Same dealer used truck sales fell 12% month over month. That's consistent with, but greater than, an expected 6% increase.

Used Class 8 January

"January is usually the second weakest sales month of the year, running about 6% below average," says Steve Tam, vice president. "The auction and wholesale markets also both cooled in January. Auction volumes shriveled 56% month over month in typical first month of the quarter fashion. Wholesale dealer activity was off 10% month over month. Combined, January total market same dealer sales volumes trailed December by 31%."

Pricing also slipped, Tam says, down 3.4% month over month to $55,308.

Conversely, Price Digests (owned by Fusable, parent company of TPS), reported monthly price increases for 2-, 5- and 10-year-old trucks in January.
