ACT Research says used truck sales were unexpectedly high in June.

ACT Research says June same-dealer used Class 8 retail truck sales bounced back, increasing 9.6% month over month.

Average sales prices in June fell below $90,000 for two-year-old units for the first time this year and only the third time since August 2024, based on data from Price Digests (owned by Fusable, parent company of TPS). Five-year-old used trucks sold for just over $50,000 on average, while 10-year-old trucks brought about half that price.

"The increase was directionally consistent with, but greater than, the expected 2% seasonal bump," says Steve Tam, vice president. "June is the fifth weakest sales month of the year, running 3% below average."

Tam says the auction and wholesale markets softened in June as auction volumes were down 22% month over month and wholesale dealer activity is down 4.8%. June's total market same dealer sales volumes were down 5.1% month over month.

"The Class 8 average retail sale price advanced 2% month over month in June to $61,571," Tam says. "Longer term, prices were 1.5% higher year over year."
