Who’s in the news: Our weekly trucking employment report

The following employment announcements were made in the trucking industry the week of Dec. 11, 2023: 

  • Grote Industries has named Juan Ramon Garcia director of operations at its Monterrey, Mexico, facility. The company also has added Jeff Howes as director of operations at its Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, facility. 
  • Julie Fream, president and CEO of MEMA’s Original Equipment Suppliers group will step down from her role March 31, 2024. Collin Shaw will succeed Fream. Shaw is currently MEMA’s chief commercial vehicle officer and chief operations officer for the Original Equipment Suppliers group.  
  • Nikola Corporation has appointed Jonathan Pertchik to its board of directors.
  • Craig Mathis was voted Employee of the Year at Four Star Freightliner. Mathis is the company’s safety director and customer advocate. 
  • Kathrynn (Katie) Hopkins will become CEO of Truck Centers Inc. on Jan. 1. She succeeds her father, M. John Hopkins IV, who has lead the company for almost 50 years. He will remain as the chairman of the company's board of directors and co-chairman of the Daimler Trucks of North America National Dealer Council.
