Julie Fream, president and CEO of MEMA Original Equipment Suppliers, delivered the keynote address at Michigan Tech University's undergraduate and graduate spring commencement.
Fream, a Michigan Tech alumna of 1983, talked about her career journey and the importance of collaboration and adaptation to change.
"Each of us has the desire to be seen and heard. At every opportunity, strive to give the person in front of you your complete attention," Fream said. "Let them know they matter and are appreciated. People remember how you made them feel. That is a lasting impact."
She advised students to embrace ambiguity as it opens the door to critical and creative thinking. Fream also suggested three things to do after graduation: learn to live in the gray, write down your goals and give back.
Fream graduated Michigan Tech with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. She was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in recognition of her long-standing commitment to Michigan Tech.
MEMA, the Vehicle Suppliers Association, has two membership groups: MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers and MEMA Original Equipment Suppliers.
