Technology plays a pivotal role in each of our daily lives these days.
Over the years, technology slowly progressed, adding new pieces here and there. Of course, there were the “big” additions such as radio, television, airplanes, cell phones, etc., etc.
But in recent years technology has crept into our lives in a smaller, less dramatic way that we just come to accept those changes without even realizing it. Heck, my two little boys are already as or more tech-savvy than dear ol’ dad.
The importance of technology is underscored in many ways, including the significant changes being made in the trucking world. Whether its creating websites and apps that are used by distributors and suppliers to find and purchase the items they need or the use of telematics to pinpoint a driver’s location almost anywhere, technology is constantly evolving and we must keep up.
One of the most impressive aspects of the trucking industry, at least to me, is the willingness to adapt to these changes. Oh, sure, not everyone is as quick to jump on board as others, but for the most part the industry is working aggressively to stay ahead of the game to make sure they are adequately prepared to meet consumers’ needs moving forward.
Companies have invested millions of dollars to implement systems that help track a drivers’ moves as he/she hauls goods across the country. Others have used their resources to develop systems that are advantageous for end users to obtain the items they need more quickly and cost efficient.
The ability to adapt and change with the times is an important part of each of our daily lives, but it’s critical to do so in this ever-changing industry.
To those who have taken the necessary steps to stay up to speed or even lead the pack, kudos to you for preparing yourself for a successful future. For those who may be a little further behind in leveraging the tools you need for future technological changes, don’t worry, it’s not too late.
But it is important, maybe more now so than ever, that you do get ready. The times are changing. Well, they have already changed, in fact.
So be sure to do your part to get ready for what lies ahead. It’s going to be a fun journey and you don’t want to get left behind.
