Mike Cleary, an internationally recognized technician trainer, has announced the dates and locations for his next light- and medium-duty technician training events.
Cleary will be holding classes on Ford Powerstroke engines from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. PT June 8, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT June 9 in San Diego. Cleary also will hold a day-long training clinic on Ford Powerstroke 6.7-liter engines from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT June 30 in Portland, Ore.
In promoting the courses, Cleary says “there are now thousands of these trucks out of warranty and needing repairs. Yet, many shops turn this highly profitable work away, either due to inadequate training, tooling or fear after hearing all the mythical horror stories about working on these trucks. Want to become efficient and profitable? Come to class and get the straight scoop on these, from a guy who works on them every day. You will make money working on these trucks.”
The June 8 class will address misconceptions about some of the systems operations and diagnostics procedures and specifications on the various Ford Powerstroke Diesel Electronic Engine Control Systems produced to date: 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L. This interactive class will both inform and either dispel or support some of the more commonly held “myths” regarding these engine systems.
Topics scheduled to be addressed include:
- EGR operation and wastegate function
- EBP operation and fuel calculations
- “Real World” diagnostics—which specs/procedures don’t work
- “Growing” oil
- Fuel system check valves and pressure regulators
- Oil coolers—What is the real cause of the “sand” in the coolant?
- IDS power balance and relative compression
- Glow plug control monitoring
- Fan speed sensors—How do they really work?
The June 9 class in San Diego and the June 30 class in Portland will cover Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel diagnostics, including the newest updates, test procedures and design changes.
Topics scheduled to be addressed include:
- Powerstroke systems and subsystem strategies and operating systems
- How to diagnose and repair the most common fault codes
- Increase your knowledge of various electronic engine control system components
- Troubleshooting shortcuts to increase your efficiency
- Discuss actual case studies in order to become more effective with your diagnostic skills
- Learn how phantom brake pedal inputs cause driveabilty problems
- Glow plug breakage
- How the PCM still functions without a VPWR input
- Technical tips, technical service bulletin information and other “need to know” info
