The organizers of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW) 2019 announced Wednesday that Daniel Burrus, author, technology futurist and CEO of Burrus Research; and Sam Schmidt, former IndyCar racer and founder of both Conquer Paralysis Now and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, will speak during the opening general session of the 14th annual conference in January in Las Vegas.

HDAW organizers say Burrus will provide the keynote address on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at the Mirage. Burrus is known for this decades of research and experience applying his Hard Trend methodology to leading companies worldwide and has identified the missing business competency: Anticipation.

With his Anticipatory Organization Model, Burrus enables business leaders to separate Hard Trends from Soft Trends, teaching them to analyze and perceive trends this way and making it possible for them to tap into what Burrus calls Everyday Innovation, which involves solving challenges faster and recognizing previously invisible opportunities. Mastering these capabilities will position business leaders to allow their organizations to be the disruptor instead of being the disrupted — thus creating their competitive advantage and reducing risk.

Event organizers say this eye-opening and motivating presentation will teach attendees the key components of the new core competency, anticipation, and show them how to apply it to their work and life, accelerating both their organization’s growth and their own personal success.

Burrus also will show attendees how to identify the Hard Trends that will happen, predict disruptions before they disrupt, and capitalize on emerging opportunities for their businesses.  Attendees will learn how to separate Hard Trends (trends that will happen) from Soft Trends (trends that might happen). Burrus will discuss the benefits of Everyday Innovation, which allows organizations to solve challenges faster and recognize previously invisible opportunities, ultimately accelerating organizational growth and employee personal success.

Schmidt also will present during Tuesday’s opening general session. He will discuss how the application of innovative motor vehicle technologies led him to overcome incredible odds after an IndyCar crash in 2000.

Schmidt entered the IndyCar circuit in 1997 and finished fifth in points during the 1999 season. In January of 2000, during testing in preparation for the season, Schmidt suffered a horrendous crash at Walt Disney World Speedway which rendered him a quadriplegic. Though no longer able to drive a racecar, schmidt was still passionate about the sport. He founded Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and in 2011, he established a full-time IndyCar racing team which has collected six wins, two Indianapolis 500 pole positions, and three top-five finishes in the championship points standings.

Immediately following Burrus’s keynote presentation, HDAW organizers say Schmidt and Burrus will engage in a one-on-one discussion with Schmidt sharing with the audience how his passion to innovate using technology allows him to race again and why HDAW attendees should embrace technology to benefit their businesses. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in a brief Q&A with Schmidt on life, career and the future of motor vehicles.
