More than 4,000 trucks sidelined by CVSA inspections

Commercial vehicle inspectors placed more than 4,600 trucks out of service for critical brake-related violations during the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Brake Safety Week in September.

During the week, inspectors conducted 34,320 inspections on commercial vehicles, resulting in 4,626 (13.5 percent) out of service orders for brakes violations.

As part of this year’s Brake Safety Week, inspectors collected and reported data on brake hoses and tubing. CVSA reports that 2,567 inspected trucks had chafed rubber hose violations, and 1,347 trucks had chafed thermoplastic hose violations.

Apart from hose violations, CVSA did not specify the most common brake violations that led to out of service orders.
