Summit, IC Bus showcase gas option

Updated Aug 7, 2017

Summit Bus joined with IC Bus Monday at the Oklahoma Association for Pupil Transportation (OAPT) Conference to showcase a new gasoline-powered option for the IC Bus CE Series school bus.

This new gasoline powertrain was appropriately first exhibited in Oklahoma, as all IC Bus units are built at the IC Bus plant in Tulsa.

“Our customers have asked for a gas engine paired with a commercial grade Allison transmission, and we are pleased that IC Bus has responded to those requests,” says Summit Area Bus Sales Director David Carney.

Summit and IC Bus say the 8.8L V-8 engine manufactured by Power Solutions International (PSI) continues to be available in a propane model as well as the new gasoline-powered option for IC Bus units.

At the OAPT conference, Summit customers were excited to see for themselves the new product.

“We were happy to get an upfront look at this new IC Bus product with a gasoline-powered engine option that offers school districts like ours lower maintenance costs,” says Dusten Kennedy, skilled maintenance technician for the Ardmore School District.

“Summit Bus provides us with a superior level of service, not only at the time of sale, but throughout the life cycle of our buses, through their dedicated parts and service departments within Summit Bus and Summit Truck locations. We are pleased to be able to continue our strong relationship Summit, while now having the option to go with a gasoline-powered school bus from IC Bus.”

The new gasoline-powered CE Series school bus from IC Bus will be displayed at various trade shows and events throughout the remainder of 2017, with deliveries starting in the first quarter of 2018, the company says.
