Meritor earns trio of supplier awards

meritor logoWednesday was a day of accolades for Meritor, as the company announced it received supplier performance awards from Paccar, Daimler Trucks North America and Hino Motors.

The company earned the 2016 Quality Award for its Escobedo, Mexico, plant from Paccar. The award recognizes excellent suppliers that meet or exceed its rigorous, near-perfect standard of 10 or fewer defective parts for every 1 million parts shipped to the OEM. To be considered for the award, Paccar says suppliers must also meet performance criteria for on-time delivery and support of Paccar’s operating divisions and its customers. Meritor manufactures front and rear axles as well as drivelines and brakes for Paccar from its plant in Escobedo.

“We’re honored to be recognized as one of Paccar’s elite 10 PPM (parts per million) suppliers,” says Chris Villavarayan, senior vice president and president, Americas for Meritor. “Our assembly facilities have adopted a culture of manufacturing excellence with best-in-class quality assurance and training.”

The company’s Masters of Quality Award from DTNA was earned by having fewer than 50 rejected parts for every 1 million parts shipped to Daimler and achieve an overall supplier score of greater than 94 percent. The score is a mix of quantitative and qualitative measures based on feedback from Daimler’s engineering, warranty, purchasing and supply chain. Meritor’s sites in Escobedo and Monterrey, Mexico, have earned the award eight times. South Carolina plants in Manning and York have received the recognition four and three times, respectively, the company says.

“By working continuously to improve product quality, each of our four facilities is contributing to Daimler’s reputation for delivering high-quality trucks to the North America market,” says Villavarayan.

Finally, Meritor’s 2016 Quality Improvement Award from Hino Motors Manufacturing is a “significant accomplishment,” the truck makers says. Meritor supplies the OEM with front and rear dressed axles from its Forest City, N.C. site.

“Our assembly facilities have adopted a culture of manufacturing excellence with best-in-class quality assurance and training to deliver products that meet the expectations of Meritor’s customers,” says Villavarayan.
