2016 Successful Dealer Award finalist: Westfall-Odell Truck Sales

Updated Sep 19, 2016

Westfall-Odell Truck Sales prides itself on providing certified, professionally trained staffs helping with both sales and service.

The Kansas City, Mo., based company has expanded brands over the years to include GMC, Freightliner medium duty, Mack, Kalmar Ottawa and Volvo Trucks. With a full-line of light, medium and heavy duty trucks, their sales consultants are ready to help customize a customer’s truck, the company says.

Westfall-Odell says that 57 percent of their Volvo/Mack service technicians are certified master technicians and several others are in the works to become master techs. The Volvo/Mack service department has 40 technicians and a 30 bay shop.

Westfall-Odell Truck Sales was one of the first three dealers in North America to become a Certified Uptime Volvo/Mack Dealer.

The GM service technicians are at 275 percent of the training standards required by GM, whereas the national average for dealer training is 96 percent.

Westfall-Odell Truck Sales has one GM Master Elite Technician, two GM Master Technicians and six GM Gold Certified Technicians. The company’s Isuzu Service Technicians are 100 percent trained and have been for the last five years.
“We feel the more training we have, the better customer service we provide,” says marketing coordinator Stacey Scherer.

Westfall-Odell also works to ensure that customers are properly trained in the products that they are buying by working with fleets and they have set up the Customer Dealer Portal which offers service training, service information and access to service bulletins for Volvo/Mack customers.

They also help fleets with understanding and using diagnostic software equipment when purchased. New truck sales supplies diagnostic software and equipment to larger fleets when purchasing trucks.

The parts department regularly hosts vendors at monthly customer appreciation lunches to bridge the gap between vendors and customers and training sessions several times a year. In the past, they have held sessions for customers to get their A/C EPA Section 609 certification.

Westfall-Odell plays an active role in helping their local community as well.

Company officials and employees make annual donations to local Kansas City area food banks by providing both food and monetary gifts.

The company also takes a unique approach in helping those less fortunate by assisting local charities with vehicle needs and purchases.

Employees often take part in local fundraisers, such as the MS walk, and collect canned food for the local food bank, named Harvesters.

Westfall-Odell Truck Sales is one of five Successful Dealer Award finalists invited to the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas in late August.

The other finalists will be profiled in separate articles in the coming weeks.
