U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) recently visited McCandless International Trucks in North Las Vegas for a dealership tour and a discussion on store operations and federal policy.
Chris McCandless, dealer principal, and his brother, Scott McCandless, who serves as American Truck Dealers (ATD) International Trucks line rep, hosted the visit. It was was Rep. Horsford’s first visit to a truck dealership since taking office. During the visit, H.R. 2381, the “Modern, Clean and Safe Trucks Act of 2019,” which would repeal the 12 percent federal excise tax (FET), was discussed, ATD says.
“Representative Horsford was very engaged and appreciated learning about the state-of-the-art technological advances available on the newest trucks,” says Chris McCandless. “The FET regularly adds tens of thousands of dollars to a customer’s final sale price and we let the Congressman know that eliminating this tax will lead to the best equipped trucks being put into service.”
Founded in 1969, McCandless International Trucks sells International, Isuzu and Vulcan heavy- and medium-duty trucks and truck parts.
“We were proud to host Representative Horsford and to have the opportunity to directly discuss with him the benefits of repealing the FET. Getting rid of this tax will modernize America’s truck fleet by giving customers more money to invest in the safest, newest and most efficient equipment available,” Chris McCandless says.
Rep. Horsford represents Nevada’s 4th district, which encompasses the central part of the state and the northern communities surrounding Las Vegas. He is a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, which oversees federal tax policy.
