Cummins’ Jamestown plant turns 40

Tom LinebargerThe Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) announced Tuesday that Cummins Chairman, CEO and President Tom Linebarger will provide the keynote address at the 2020 TRALA Annual Meeting, set for March 29 to April 1, 2020, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Fla.

In his roles at Cummins, Linebarger oversees the strategic direction and growth initiatives of the 100-year old, Indiana-based company. Cummins is the world’s largest independent manufacturer of engines and related technologies; and a provider of global service and support in 190 countries across a network of approximately 7,500 distributor and dealer locations.

“We are pleased that Tom will be able to speak to our group during the annual meeting,” says TRALA President and CEO Jake Jacoby. “Cummins is a worldwide leader in truck engines and their ever-changing technologies, giving Tom the ability to address both current obstacles as well as trends for the future as it relates to the trucking industry.”

Linebarger became chairman and CEO in January 2012. Before that, he served as president and COO from 2008 to 2011, executive vice president and president, Power Generation Business from 2003 to 2008, vice president and chief financial officer from 2000 to 2003, and vice president, supply chain management from 1998 to 2000.

In addition to his work at Cummins, TRALA says Linebarger is actively involved with both global and local organizations. He has been a member of the board of directors of Harley Davidson since 2008. He is a board member of the Business Roundtable where he serves as chair of the International Engagement Committee, working with government officials on crafting legislation that impacts American businesses. He also is a member of the executive committee, U.S.-China Business Council, and Energy Systems Network.

Locally, he acts as committee chair of the Personal Mobility Network’s Corporate Advisory Committee, which focuses on improving public transportation for the residents of Indianapolis. And in 2018, Linebarger was appointed as a steering group member of the Hydrogen Council, a global organization developing strategies and solutions in support of an energy transition to hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
