Cummins launches new diesel engine for Ram heavy-duty trucks

A Cummins diesel engine for Ram trucks.

Ram and Cummins on Tuesday unveiled a new 6.7-liter diesel engine for Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cab trucks.

"We've improved the power, efficiency, serviceability and driveability of our latest 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine, making the 2025 Ram heavy duty lineup the most desirable yet," says Jane Beaman, vice president of global on-highway and pickup at Cummins.

The engine boasts 430 horsepower and 1,075-lb.-ft. of torque for pickups and 360 horsepower and 800 lb.-ft. of torque for chassis cab trucks. In both models, it's coupled with a new eight-speed transmission.

"Whether you are towing heavy loads for work or pulling your weekend camper, Cummins 6.7 turbo diesel is ready for any proejct," says Jennifer Rager, general manager of Cummins' pickup business. "Our engineers have integrated critical, yet versatile, high performance engine technologies that customers expect at lower emissions."

Ram says the engine is responsible for improved towing speeds and responsiveness, smoother transient responses and less noise and harshness. The engine also has a new airflow management design with a high-pressure fuel delivery system and a new fuel pump. It also improves cold starting abilities, the companies say, with integration of advanced glow plug technology.

To facilitate easier maintenance, Cummins says software updates can now be installed from inside the truck. The oil filter and dual fuel filter are also repositioned to enable service from the top of the engine.
