Bendix's EnduraSure-Pro sealed spring brake for air disc brakes is now available as a factory option on Peterbilt trucks, the company says.

"We're proud to have Peterbilt equip the Bendix EnduraSure-Pro sealed spring brake for air disc brakes on their trucks, helping to bring additional value, safety and lower total cost of ownershipo for fleets and drivers in North America," says Nicole Oreskovic, Bendix's vice president of sales and marketing. "Our long, valued partnership with Peterbilt extends to the earliest days of North American air disc brake adoption — this latest addition to the lineup of Bendix products available on Peterbilt vehicles is yet another milestone."

Bendix says the sealed spring brake helps protect against moisture and contaminants entering the unit, the most common reason for spring brake failure. The EnduraSure-Pro  features a one-way check valve into the dust plug, allowing air to escape and keeping moisture and debris out.

"Fleets that choose air disc brakes want to protect their investment in this premium technology and they can help do that with the EnduraSure-Pro spring brake," says Frank Gilboy, Bendix's director of foundation drum brake and actuators. "To validate the durability of our sealed spring brake, we test in the harshest environments, both in the laboratory and on-vehicle."

EnduraSure-Pro has a power spring designed to help eliminate coil clash, where coils of the compressed spring touch and wear away the protective coating. The spring brake is also designed with a greater power spring shut height to reduce stresses and allow it to better maintain its force output over time.

"Air disc brakes deliver smooth, straight and stable stops with little or no brake face — drivers love them on the road and fleets love them in the shop, since friction changes can be handled much more quickly than drums," Gilboy says. "And when you factor in that ADBs also help support optimum performance of higher-level safety systems like full stability and collision mitigation, protecting them from the hazards of failed spring brakes becomes even more important."
