Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems opened the Huntington, Indiana, plant in February 1980 with 30 employees. Forty-five years later, it has more than 400 Bendix team members and, the company says, is a cornerstone of its manufacturing and distribution network.

"Reaching 45 years is a testament to our remarkable team and our forward-thinking approach," says Eric Meehan, managing director of operations at the plant. "Because of our employees' dedication to quality, customer satisfaction and workplace safety, we remain at the forefront of innovations that help commercial fleets and drivers operate more safely and efficiently. At the same time, our deep commitment to Huntington has contributed to our longevity, with everyone here taking as much pride in our home community as we do in our work."

The Huntington plant includes manufacturing and assembly as well as the company's primary North American distribution center. It handles air compressor remanufacturing, electronics assembly,  and integrated modules and engine vibration damper manufacturing. It manages nearly 199,000 Bendix part numbers.

"Quality and reliability are non-negotiables for Bendix," Meehan says. "Each day, our workforce brings a strong commitment to excellence that you can see in our products and processes — whether we're supplying air compressors, assembling crucial ADAS components, or delivering next-generation brake technologies."

Bendix recently expanded the plant's capabilities with two multimillion-dollar investments. One is at the distribution center, which is being revitalized with automated storage and retrieval systems, goods-to-person workflows and warehouse control technologies. This project will be completed this year.

The second project centralizes engine vibration damper production, increasing efficiency, streamlining logistics and allowing for future automation and capacity extensions.

"Our culture prioritizes safety and fosters employee ownership. The success of Huntington is rooted in each team member understanding the critical role they play in keeping commercial vehicles safe on the roads. We're proud to continue investing in our people, our technology and our community," Meehan says.

Those team members also help the surrounding Huntington community. Company leadership and employees volunteer, fundraise and serve on boards for local organizations, Bendix says, including Junior Achievement, the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington County and United Way of Huntington County.

"We believe that being a good neighbor means rolling up our sleeves and giving back," Meehan says. "From volunteering at local nonprofits to pledging financial support for critical community programs, our team is proud to make a real difference right here in Huntington."
