Mark Colson has been chosen as the new president and CEO of the American Trucking Associations, the organization announced Thursday. He will assume the role Dec. 1.
Colson previously led the Alabama Trucking Association. Greg Hodgen, chairman of the ATA and CEO of Groendyke Transport, says he's a leader who understands the business, appreciates the strength of the federation and recognizes the responsibility that comes with putting an investment in the group to work.

"Mark made clear that he sees this role as a commitment, one fueled by a passion for trucking, a deep and abiding belief in the people of this industry, and a determination to advocate on their behalf," Hodgen wrote in a statement. "He wants to earn our members' trust, strengthen the relationships that hold this federation together and fight for the issues that matter to trucking companies and the people who call this industry home."
Colson got his start in the industry changing tires in his family's tire shop, the ATA says, and has served on the ATA's Strategic Priorities Committee, on the Truck PAC Board of Directors, and on the American Transportation Research Institute's (ATRI's) Research Advisory Committee. He was also recently elected to the Trucking Association Executives Council.
Colson succeeds Chris Spear, who stepped down as president and CEO in August.
