U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Deputy Administrator David Fotouhi visited several facilities in Michigan that supply and support vehicle manufacturing.
"This administration is supporting American manufacturing and delivering billions in regulatory cost savings while providing tangible environmental results," Fotouhi says. "It was great to see the positive effect this administration's common sense policies are having not only for auto manufacturers but also throughout the auto industry supply chain in Michigan and beyond."

Fotouhi's tour started with Umicore's Auburn Hills, Mich., facility. Umicore, a member of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), develops catalyst system for vehicle exhaust reduction. He then went to Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) facility in Plymouth, Mich.
The next day, he went to the EPA's National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Mich. He visited teams with the Office of Transportation and Air Quality who are working on emissions regulations, including system failures related to diesel exhaust fluid and lowering fuel costs.
The lab provides testing service for motor vehicle, heavy duty engine and off-road engines in support of rulemaking, enforcement actions and test procedures development. This includes certifying that vehicles and engines meet federal emissions and fuel economy standards, testing engines for in-use compliance, analyzing fuels, analyzing fuel additives and analyzing exhaust compounds.
