ACT Research released its analysis of final North American Class 8 numbers for July on Tuesday.
Net orders totaled 13,465 units for the month with 13% of that going to exports and Mexico.
"The Class 8 backlog fell 13,626 units month-over-month in July, to 114,291 units," says Kenny Vieth, ACT president and senior analyst. "July's build rate decreased on a per-day basis. Still-strong production, coupled with lower orders, continues to drain units from the backlog, and with inventories now at record levels, current production levels are likely coming under increasing pressure."

Class 8 inventories are at an all-time high, Vieth continued, sitting at 88,803 units.
The report was part of ACT's State of the Industry: NA Classes 5-8 report. It provides a monthly look at the production, sales and general state of the on-road heavy- and medium-duty commercial vehicle markets in North America.
