Robert Nuss, president at Minnesota-based Nuss Truck & Equipment, was named the 2017 American Truck Dealers (ATD) Dealer of the Year Friday at the NADA/ATD Convention & Expo in New Orleans.

Nuss has served as president at Nuss Truck & Equipment for nearly 40 years. His father Charles Nuss, Jr., founded the dealership as Mack of Rockford (Minn.) in 1959.

Robert took over the operation in the 1970s, and led it through its first acquisition in 1979.

Now the Rochester, Minn.-headquartered dealership group has eight locations across two states: Rochester, Burnsville, Duluth, East Bethel, Mankato, Roseville and St. Cloud, Minn., as well as Eau Claire, Wis. It sells Volvo, Mack and Isuzu trucks, Volvo construction equipment and trailer brands Manac, Jet Trailers, X-L Specialized, Walker Stainless Milk Tanks, Talbert, Midland Truck Bodies and Delta Truck Bodies.

During his career Nuss has served as Chairman of the Mack dealer council and has supported many charitable organizations in the Rochester area, as well St. Cloud State University and the Minnesota Private College Fund.

Katie Hopkins, executive vice president at dealer principal at Truck Centers, Inc., in Troy, Ill., was named finalist for the 2017 award.  The ATD Dealer of the Year award is sponsored by Procede Software and Heavy Duty Trucking.
