New Commercial Fleet Tire Digest addresses greenhouse gas regulations

Pressure Systems International (PSI) has released its newest issue of Commercial Fleet Tire Digest—an update on the EPA’s Phase 2 regulations on fuel economy and greenhouse gas restrictions as it relates to trailers.

In it, PSI writes the goal of Phase 2 “is to improve commercial vehicle fuel economy in order to continue reducing greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. The rulemaking is a 10-year rule increasing in stringency every three years. Over the 10-year period, the total fuel economy savings estimated by EPA is approximately $196 billion.”

PSI adds that “under GHG-2 the responsibility is on the vehicle manufacturers to meet the new guidelines. Tractor and trailer OE’s are obliged to meet their vehicle fuel economy targets or be subject to significant financial penalties. Trucking fleets can spec their tractors and trailers with various fuel efficient options to meet and/or exceed the guidelines.”

From there the company lists the parameters for trailers under Phase 2, and the products available in the industry to help manufacturers and fleets reach achieve these requirements.
