With a growing number of products vying for position on the front of the trailer, lack of space can be a problem. Purkeys, a Lowell, Ark.-based provider of electrical solutions for heavy-duty fleets, is looking to alleviate the issue with a line of space-saving noseboxes.

Purkeys’ Direct nosebox line, the Direct Plus, Direct Flex and Direct Max, enables fleets to utilize the functionality of both the nosebox and liftgate charging systems in one receptacle, freeing up needed space on the front of the trailer, according to the company.

“The consolidation will be a significant benefit for fleets,” says Purkeys CEO Justin Purkey. “This generation of our liftgate charging system marks a significant landmark. Previous generations are really cool, but we’ve taken it even further as we’ve streamlined the offerings. It’s easier to install, easier to inspect [and] easier to troubleshoot. We are confident that between the three offerings, we will be able to provide the power the fleet needs.”

In addition to the compact design, the company says the Direct nosebox line provides several benefits to fleets, including:

  • Providing peace of mind by maintaining and protecting batteries
  • Saving money by maximizing battery life and reducing downtime/road calls
  • Easy to read LED indicators
  • Continuing to charge for a time after the tractor is turned off
  • Replaceable/removable receptacle in case of damage
  • Interior light timer control

The interior light control is an additional feature added since the product line was announced in November. It allows the driver to select whether the lights remain on for 30, 60, or 90 minutes, enabling the driver to work as needed inside the trailer while ensuring the batteries will not become depleted by the interior lights, the company says.
