Pressure Systems International’s (PSI) June issue of Commercial Fleet Tire Digest is now available.
This month’s issue tackles the tough choice of picking the correct tires for a fleet. PSI states it’s not easy determining what the best combination of tires is to run in a fleet, and that the ideal tire for any commercial tire customer is the one that provides the most advantages: great fuel economy, maximum tire removal miles, casings that can handle multiple retreads and traction in all weather conditions.
However, PSI adds, “tire managers recognize that choosing the best tire is a compromise. Each wheel position, steer, drive, trailer and dolly require different characteristics in order to optimize performance. Different service vocations also require different tire solutions.”
The company goes on to address just how much price and duty cycle will impact a fleet’s purchasing choice, and guidance on how fleets can test tires for a period of time on a select number of units to determine the best choice for the remainder of their operation. But if that is considered, PSI states the fleet must “keep detailed records of the test tires. Important data includes the history of mounting, dismounting, repairs, retreading, rotation and final casing removal analysis. Your maintenance associates must be dedicated to the process. It is certainly impossible to track every tire in your fleet but a statistically valid sample size will produce the same results.”
