In its sophomore year, HDA Truck Pride’s Top Tech Competition saw double the entries and quality technicians vie for Top Tech honors. The contest is open to all HDA Truck Pride technicians, either through a distributing member or Truck Service Expert location.

After a 60-question written exam, six technicians advanced to a hands-on competition at the Maryland Motor Truck Association’s SuperTech qualifier. The following six technicians participated in Baltimore; Joel Maassen, Vander Haag’s; Evan Lang, E.L.M. Repair and Refrigeration; Kurt Schreiner, E.L.M. Repair and Refrigeration; James Benedict, The Service Company; Brian Judy, RT&T Repair; and Eric Curler, RT&T Repair.

The top two technicians advanced to TMC SuperTech in Raleigh, N.C. Benedict and Judy were the only independent technicians to compete at TMC’s annual competition. During a two-day mix of written tests and hands-on challenges, HDA Truck Pride’s technicians finished 27th and 35th out of 92 competitors, HDA Truck Pride says.

With his finish in the top third, Benedict earned the title of 2019 HDA Truck Pride Top Tech. This is his second year competing for the Top Tech spot; he finished third last year during the Maryland qualifier. This was his first year advancing to TMC SuperTech.

“It was a very good learning experience with regard to how the rest of the industry repairs equipment. I have really enjoyed the two years I represented HDA Truck Pride’s Truck Service Experts through this contest,” says Benedict.

The 2019 Top Tech competition was sponsored by Dayton Parts.
