Allison Transmission is expanding its Chennai, India, automatic transmission plant, the company announced Thursday.

The more-than-$100 million investment will double the existing manufacturing footprint. It will increase production capacity for Allison's on-highway fully automatic transmission portfolio. The company says that, in turn, will enhance global operational flexibility and capability.

Headquartered in Indianapolis, Allison has more than 1,600 independent distributor and dealer locations around the world.
