ACT says used truck volumes rose last month

Class 8 same dealer used truck sales volumes gained some ground in August, following two consecutive months of declines, announced ACT Research Tuesday in its State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks.

“Channel analysis indicates that August was the second best sales month this year,” says Steve Tam, vice president at ACT Research. “The retail and wholesale market segments fared well, posting gains of 11 percent and 19 percent month over month, respectively.”

ACT says the average price of total reported used Class 8 trucks fell 3 percent sequentially in August, erasing July’s 2 percent gain.

“After several months of fluctuation within a very narrow band, the average price has moved to a slight downward trend. At $38,600 in August, it was the lowest point since early 2011,” he says.
