Technician training got a little bit easier Sunday.
During a press conference at ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, education and technology company Cengage announced it has partnered with S/P2 to bring the latter’s online safety, pollution and soft skills training within its MindTap digital learning platform.
According to the two parties, this new partnership will give students in transportation training programs both the technical and professional skills they need to be successful in the workplace.
“We know that employers want students who have both technical skills, such as theory, application and diagnostic training, as well safety and soft skills. By partnering with S/P2, we’re giving students the best of both worlds, and ensuring they are prepared to be successful in the workplace,” says Katie McGuire, senior product manager at Cengage.
S/P2 President Kyle Holt adds that this partnership will better ensure new technicians entering the trucking industry come not only with technical aptitude, but also other incredibly useful and preferred soft skills. Companies don’t just want technical competence in a person, they also want a “bearer of the brand,” he says.
McGuire says integrating S/P2 content directly into MindTap provides both students and faculty a single point of access for all of their essential training content. Instructors also will benefit from a single gradebook for program tracking. She says MindTap products, including MindTap Automotive and MindTap Collision, will deliver S/P2 content at no additional cost, and students also can access MindTap as part of a Cengage Unlimited subscription, which gives students access to all of the company’s digital higher education materials more than 22,000 products across 70 disciplines and 675 courses for $119.99 a semester.
