Used sales volumes trend up in January

Updated Feb 14, 2019

ACT Research reports preliminary used Class 8 same-dealer-sales volumes improved moderately in January, rising 4 percent month-over-month, following two sequential declines. The news was released in ACT’s State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks report.

Looking long term, ACT says last month’s volume numbers were still down 19 percent year over year. Price was up 10 percent year over year, while average miles were relatively flat (down 2 percent) and average age was higher.

“Our analysis suggests change is afoot in the transportation arena, as well as the new and used vehicle markets,” says Steve Tam, vice president at ACT Research. “Dealers need to remain vigilant, closely monitoring their markets for signs of change.”
