ACT Research's latest report on U.S. trailers shows cancellations are continuing to rise.

The year-to-date order tally is 76,600 units or 13% higher than the first five months of 2024. For the month, order intake was just above 6,600 units, which is down 26% from April, but 12% higher than orders accepted in May 2024.

"Worth noting, the industry's annual period of seasonally stronger order months is in the rearview mirror, and weaker intake is expected from now through mid-Q3," says Jennifer McNealy, director of commercial vehicle market research and publications at ACT.

"Cancellations started to escalate in February," she continued. "Buttressed by some astronomical tank order cancellations, this month's rate as a percentage of backlog jumped to 4%. Additionally, data continue to show elevated dry and reefer van cancellations."
