Dometic releases new AC units

Updated Apr 5, 2011

Dometic has agreed to supply battery-powered engine-off air conditioning units to Volvo Trucks North America for OEM installation in its new Volvo VN sleeper trucks.

According to Dometic, the CARB-compliant 10,000 Btu per hour system can cool the sleeper compartment under high ambient temperature conditions, and is designed to run more than 10 hours at a 100 percent duty cycle. The company says the unit can recharge in six hours while driving. The split system consists of a condensing unit mounted outside the cab and a compressor-evaporator-fan unit under the bunk. The units are connected by refrigerant lines with quick-connect fittings, and are pre-charged for quick installation. The system also comes with an alternator, 2,000 watt inverter and bank of eight absorbed glass mat batteries.

Dometic has also introduced a new 15,000 Btu per hour self-contained air conditioner for specialty vehicles. The system runs on 120 volt AC electricity from a shorepower connection or diesel generator. Dometic says all components of the unit are mounted on a compact chassis with shock and vibration insulation and an aluminum sound shield. The sealed refrigerant circuit also comes pre-charged and requires no additional charge at installation.

The system has a 2.5 kW heating and cooling capacity, and can be installed in an undercarriage or storage locker for an emergency vehicle or bus.

“This new package unit is a versatile and flexible solution for cooling and heating in a variety of different vehicle platforms,” says Siegel.
