Castell creates safety system for loading docks

Updated Feb 16, 2012

SalvoCastell has added a product to its Salvo range of drive-away prevention safety products.

The new Salvo Control Panel+ is designed to provide fast, safe and easy access to loading docks, and is said to prevent injury by making it impossible for trucks to drive away during loading or unloading.

The SCP+ works by attaching gladhand locks to the truck’s emergency brake line, ensuring brakes are applied. Castell says this provides worker safety and ensures compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178 and FMCSA 49 CFR 393.41 vehicle loading requirements..

Once the gladhand lock is applied, a coded key is released, the company says. This key is then used to open the dock door to begin loading or unloading the trailer. Castell says only after work is completed and the door closed is the key needed to unlock the gladhand brake lock released, making it impossible for the driver to depart prematurely.

Custom Salvo configurations are available for powered and manual doors, tanker unloading applications and loading areas without doors, Castell says.

The new SCP+ also is said to increase productivity with an illuminated lock suited for use in 24/7 operating environments. Entirely visual operating instructions eliminate language barriers and shorten the learning curve.

SCP+ also has been designed for simpler installation. An ergonomic enclosure allows for fast access to the electrical terminals and reduces wiring time, and Castell says the multi-voltage panel is suitable for 24V AC, 24V DC, 110V AC or 230V AC supply.
