New NTEA white paper offers clarity on DOT divisions

NTEA has released a new white paper that focuses on three U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) divisions and explores how they relate to the work truck industry.

NTEA defines the divisions as follows

  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) primarily regulates the building of vehicles used on public highways and manufacturers of vehicles, including multi-stage manufacturers of work trucks.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) primarily regulates operators of commercial motor vehicles on public roads.
  • Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) primarily regulates hazardous material transport.

This white paper also addresses Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for commercial vehicles operated on off-highway job sites. The white paper was written by NTEA Director of Technical Services Bob Raybuck and NTEA Senior Technical Assistance Director Steve Spata.
