ACT: Used Class 8 retail sale price higher at year's end

Used Act

ACT Research says the used Class 8 retail price nudged slightly higher in December to $56,865. That's a mere 0.5% higher month-over-month.

"On a year-over-year basis, prices were 2% lower," says Steve Tam, vice president at ACT. "Prices are expected to remain stable at or around the current level before transitioning to year-over-year growth in early 2025."

Sales hit their highest monthly tally for 2024 in December.

"The 16% month-over-month increase was stronger than the expected 8% seasonal contraction indicated by history," Tam says. "December is typically the fifth best sales month of the year, running less than 1% below average."

ACT reported the figures in the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks report. It provides data on the average selling price, miles and age based on a sample of industry data.
