Webb Wheel highlights PM tips for disc wheel hub bearings

Webb Wheel OEM Business Unit has published its most recent quarterly newsletter offering technical advice to those specifying, operating or servicing wheel end equipment on medium- and heavy-duty trucks and trailers.

A follow up to Webb Wheel’s Q3 newsletter on disc wheel hub maintenance, this quarter’s issues focuses on the best procedures to service the hub
bearings.

“The frequency of lubricant changes depends upon individual operating conditions, speed and loads,” Webb Wheel says. “It is recommended that the hub bearing lubricant be physically checked and inspected at every service and not less than twice a year to prevent excessive or premature wear. Follow all lubricant manufacturers’ guidelines for replacement and service. You should inspect the lubricant removed for any foreign material or debris such as metal shavings or other small abrasive particles. And also inspect for any moisture contamination.
