TMC webinar to address emerging coolant technologies

The ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) will hold a free webinar for its members addressing new and emerging cooling technologies at 12 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, May 24.

TMC says engine coolants have experienced a great period of change and diversity in recent years.  With the introduction of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology more demand is placed on the engine’s coolant system than ever before.  Coolant system components have also changed, creating some original equipment manufacturer (OEM) factory fill challenges and changes.

Today’s coolants feature a diversity of technologies and colors, and knowing the differences between them is extremely important for maximum coolant system protection. For example, nitrite-free organic acid technology (OAT-NF) coolants are rapidly becoming the preferred specification among manufacturers and fleets, TMC says.

A prequel to TMC’s 2016 Fall Meeting Technical Session on the subject, this webinar will address coolant identification, labeling, testing, color (on the truck and in the bottle), as well as offer recommendations for coolant maintenance. TMC says the webinar also will describe successful conversion procedures from conventional NOAT to OAT-NF coolants from the fleet and supplier perspective.

Lastly, panelists will cover the investment associated with adopting various coolant technologies and provide a glimpse as to what changes will be coming to coolants in the future.

TMC says questions that arise from the webinar will be addressed at a full technical session at TMC’s 2016 Fall Meeting.

Panelists will include:

  • Kirk Altrichter, vice president of maintenance, Crete Carrier Corporation
  • Brent Hilton, director of maintenance, Maverick Transportation
  • Marty Martinelli, national account sales manager, PEAK Commercial & Industrial
  • Chuck Blake, senior technical sales support manager, Detroit Diesel
