A ceremony celebrating the award and the December 2015 achievement of one million man-hours without a lost-time accident milestone was held on Tuesday, May 24. During the ceremony, Kentucky Labor Cabinet Deputy Secretary Mike Nemes presented Firestone with the award. Also in attendance were several state and local officials, including State Representative Regina Bunch; Whitley County Judge Executive Pat White, Jr.; and City of Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison, along with Firestone President Scott Damon and Plant Manager Michael Weir.
“Safety is one of our highest priorities – here in Williamsburg and company-wide,” says Damon. “All of our safety successes come from our teammates and our shared commitment to creating a safe workplace. Together, we reached this milestone.”
In 2014, the Williamsburg plant, which manufactures products for the air suspension market, celebrated its 25th anniversary. Firestone says the plant has a long history of safety, including the achievement of the one million man-hours without a lost-time accident milestone in 2010, 2011 and 2015. In addition to this year’s recognition, the plant has received the Kentucky Governor’s Safety & Health Award in 2010 and 2012.
The Kentucky Labor Cabinet presents the Governor’s Safety and Health Award to highlight the outstanding safety and health performances of businesses across the commonwealth, Firestone says. A business may qualify for the award if its employees achieve a required number of hours worked without experiencing a lost-time injury or illness. The required number of hours is dependent upon the number of employees, the company says.
