Bendix‘s EverSure Spring Brake with the No Touch Power Spring and the Bendix Versajust LS Slack Adjuster with the WearMax Clutch can now be spec’d as factory-installed options through the Peterbilt databook on various Class 8 vehicles.

Bendix says this option makes it even easier to pair standard-equipment Bendix air disc and drum brakes with Bendix slack adjusters and spring brakes, enabling fleets and owner-operators to conveniently realize the advantages of a single-manufacturer wheel-end package.

Additionally, Bendix says the EverSure and Versajust can be spec’d together using a single databook code, further smoothing the road to packaging them with Bendix foundation drum brakes, which come standard on Peterbilt Class 8 drive axles, when customers specify Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes on steer axles.

Bendix says the option codes for the slack adjusters are:

  • 1392540 BENDIX SLACKS AND CHAMBERS STEER AXLE
  • 1687400 BENDIX SLACKS AND CHAMBERS DRIVE AXLE

“There’s added value in a wheel-end brake package engineered by a single provider, from the system performance designed and certified together to the uptime benefits of shared technician training and product support,” says Scott Newhouse, Peterbilt chief engineer. “Customer value is further enhanced with the addition of Bendix’s slack adjusters and spring brakes providing a more optimized brake adjustment and pad life, especially in light of the positive feedback we’ve received from customers.”

When Bendix air disc brakes on the front steer axle are spec’d with Bendix drum brakes on the drive axle, in combination with EverSure and Versajust, customers receive an optimized brake package. ADB on the steer axle provides improved stopping distance and reduces the opportunity for brake steer. In addition, the Bendix drum brake is optimized for weight and durability.

When EverSure and Versajust are added to the package, Bendix says customers get a longer-life chamber while getting up to 16 percent more friction life and up to a 30 percent improvement in drum life with Versajust. This brake system is the optimized hybrid (ADB front steer/drum drive) combination, the company says.
