TMC to address Right to Repair MOU

TMCThe Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) is doing its part to prepare the heavy-duty trucking industry for the implementation of the Right to Repair MOU.

At its upcoming Annual Meeting, set for Feb. 29 to March 3, 2016, in Nashville, TMC’s S.12 Onboard Vehicle Electronic Study Group will hold a technical session to work on developing an application that vendors of Vehicle Diagnostic Adapters (VDA) can use to qualify their products as compliant with the guidelines of the MOU. TMC says this application would be a test within RP 1210, and when finalized, would ideally allow vendors ample time to qualify all products.

The heavy-duty Memorandum of Understanding allows independent aftermarket operations access to vehicle diagnostic codes and equipment as of this Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, and access to OEM-proprietary diagnostic software to use on existing computers on Jan. 1, 2018.

TMC says the VDA application would apply to the latter date.

The session is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 2 at the Music City Center in Nashville.
