Pressure Systems International (PSI) has published its final Commercial Fleet Tire Digest of 2017. This final issue addresses setting tire pressure levels with automatic tire inflation systems (ATIS).
As the industry leader in the production of ATIS systems, PSI states “adopting ATIS for the first time provides the perfect opportunity to revisit your trailer tire cold pressure setting. When asked what setting the system should be set to, most quickly respond with ‘The same pressure as we have been running,’ which in many cases is not optimal.”
PSI gives the reasons for this as follows:
- It was set to compensate for air loss because the equipment may not be seen for a long time
- It is easier for maintenance to have a single pressure for all steer, drive, and trailer tires
- It was based on maximum trailer loads that may have since changed
From here, PSI goes on to provide a series of tips and a chart to aid service providers and vehicle owners in determining where tire pressure should be set using an ATIS system. To read more and see the chart, please CLICK HERE.
