University of the Aftermarket will present its “Aftermarket 101” program on May 29-30 at Federal-Mogul’s headquarters in Southfield, Mich.

The program is open to new employees in the automotive or heavy-duty aftermarket and will provide a better understanding of the aftermarket, its structure and trends.

This annual program is offered in partnership with the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association and is specifically created to define and demystify the industry for new aftermarket hires, the University says. Typically, attendees have less than one year in the industry and represent a diverse range of job functions and companies. During the day-and-a-half program participants will be exposed to key information about the aftermarket, its history, scope, market channels, customers and trends.

The University of the Aftermarket says specific subjects include:
• Industry Basics, Channels and Terminology
• History of the Aftermarket
• Current State of the Aftermarket
• The Global Aftermarket
• Distribution: Structure and Trends
• Service Dealer Challenges and Opportunities
• Macro Trends: The Big Picture
• Field Trip to Visit a Two-Step WD
• Networking Opportunities

“Aftermarket 101 is an outstanding opportunity for new aftermarket professionals to get a solid background and thorough understanding of the industry,” says Brian Cruickshank, University of the Aftermarket director. “Participants will learn from recognized industry experts, each with an average of 25 years of real-world aftermarket experience.”

Registration is $650 for both days and includes lunch and all materials. To register, visit www.universityoftheaftermarket.com, click “Course Calendar” and then choose the May 29-30 “Aftermarket 101” program, or call 800-551-2881. The University says special rates apply for companies sending more than three employees. Additionally for those requiring travel to the event, special hotel rates have been negotiated near Federal Mogul. Contact the University of the Aftermarket for more details.

Participants will receive 1.2 credits toward completion of their Automotive Aftermarket Professional (AAP) or Master Automotive Aftermarket Professional (MAAP) designations.
