U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) toured Quad City Peterbilt in Davenport, Iowa, last week and met with dealer George Grask and his staff.
The discussion included the repeal of the federal excise tax (FET) on heavy-duty trucks, which would allow truck buyers to invest in more new, cleaner and safer trucks.
Sen. Grassley also held a townhall style forum with the dealership’s employees. He discussed issues important to the trucking industry, such as potential new tariffs, trade deals and an infrastructure bill, which could offer a path for FET repeal. As chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Grassley plays a pivotal role whether the FET is repealed.
“It was critical for us to educate the senator on why the FET needs to be repealed. I think we accomplished our mission,” Grask says.
During his visit, the senator also received an up-close look and briefing on the new technologies available in a Peterbilt 579 truck, which was purchased by one of the dealership’s customers, Murry Fitzer, CEO, Florilli Transportation.
