Research and Market's new report, "Global OEM Strategies for Electric Medium- and Heavy-Duty Truck Platforms," predicts electric vehicles will make up nearly half of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in North America and Europe by 2030.
Leading OEMs anticipate 25-35 percent of their new truck sales to be electric by 2030, the report says, with the majority of those vehicles using eAxles. The other 30 percent will use centrally driven motors. The report also predicts a new eAxle configuration with two motors each at the rear wheels will come onto the market in the next few years.
Battery placement and electric motor architecture are the most important design elements in an electric truck, the report says, adding that a battery-on-the-bottom design will come into use after 2025.
