RV pricing update highlights skyrocketing equipment prices

RV driving in Banff

A recent pricing update report by Price Digests showcasing skyrocketing acquisition costs in the recreational vehicle (RV) market further illuminates how much equipment pricing has transformed over the last two years.

Among some of the most popular RV makes and models, pricing has risen by 25 to 50 percent over the past year. But while that news is somewhat unsurprising and tracks with what is being seen in the medium- and heavy-duty trucking sector, one aspect of the RV market that appears unique to its segment is a sudden and precipitous loss in production scope.

Price Digests reports it found there were 1,306 models/floor plans made for 2021, but only 377 new models/floor plans for the 2022 model year. This reduction of more than 900 models/floor plans seems to be the result of two major factors — production capabilities and customer demand.

The supply chain issues being faced in the trucking sector are also present in the RV space and have slowed production pace. But also, while pricing among the most popular RV models have exploded due to demand, less common, more custom models saw little change in pricing and demand in 2021, thus were discontinued in favor of the stronger volume products for the 2022 model year.

Price Digests was acquired by Randall Reilly in 2021 and is a sister company of Trucks, Parts, Service.
