Vanguard Truck Centers has published a blog detailing the depths of the technician shortage found in the commercial trucking space.
In the piece, Vanguard Truck Centers showcases how it is working to develop and implement plans to attract young technical talent to the business. It also addresses ways other industry operations can do the same.
"There is no short-term solution, and industry leaders must look ahead," the company states. "Vanguard Trucks Centers has spent several years developing and implementing plans to bring more candidates into the technician pipeline."
Vanguard says it has developed partnerships and programs with major technical schools like Western Tech, J-Tech, Universal Technical Institute, and the University of Northwestern Ohio. The dealer also added a full-time recruiting director to work with these institutions and develop employment programs and opportunities.

The company has advanced its in-house career path development too. The Vanguard FastTrack Program provides entry-level technicians with a clear path to success as a technician at Vanguard, the company says. The program provides the training and tools necessary by matching the entry-level technician with a training program and a mentor over the course of one year.
"When technicians graduate from the FastTrack program, they will be confident enough to thrive in their careers with Vanguard Truck Centers," the dealer group states.
