Used truck retail sales volumes rose last month, and with the influx came a slight dip in price, ACT Research reports.
According to the company’s market research, preliminary Class 8 same dealer sales volumes were up 14% from July in August. Pricing was down 5% from July but equal to August 2024.
“The preliminary average retail price (same dealer sales) of used Class 8 trucks softened in August, falling to $57,600,” says Steve Tam, vice president at ACT Research. “Like volumes, prices also experience seasonal fluctuations. August’s decline was counter to expectations, which called for about an 8% gain.”
Tam notes the retail sales increase did not extend into other channels.
“Auction prices shed 6% month over month and wholesale prices were down by an even larger margin (-11% month over month) from July. Combined, the preliminary average sale price for all units was 5% lower month over month,” he says.
