Kinedyne offering cargo securement training ahead of Roadcheck event

Kinedyne announced Tuesday it is offering free training resources on cargo securement regulations and procedures through the end of May to help truck drivers prepare for the annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) International Roadcheck program from May 17-19, 2022.

Kinedyne says customers who want to avoid their trucks being taken out of service for violations of cargo control regulations can refresh and test their knowledge at Kinedyne’s online training portal.

The training site launched in early April as part of Kinedyne’s annual sponsorship of International Cargo Securement Awareness Month.

During CVSA’s International Roadcheck, vehicle inspectors across the United States, Canada, and Mexico will inspect commercial vehicles to ensure that their safety systems – including cargo securement – comply with regulations. CVSA reported that 16.5 percent of the more than 40,000 vehicles inspected during the 2021 International Roadcheck were taken out of service. Cargo securement was the fifth most common violation, resulting in nearly 1,200 vehicles being sidelined for failing to meet basic cargo control requirements.

Fleets and owner-operators who want to make sure they are properly following cargo securement regulations can check out Kinedyne’s Roadcheck resource website.

Upon registering, Kinedyne says the training site provides access to detailed training videos and downloadable training documents including a white paper, “Cargo Securement: A Guide to Cargo Control Regulations,” a quick reference to all 37 steps of the Level 1 North American Inspection, and a self-testing assessment of registrants’ knowledge of cargo securement. The first 200 registrants also receive a free printed pocket guide to proper cargo securement.

Kinedyne says the online training resources present cargo securement best practices, including:

  • Understanding cargo restraints and trucking regulations
  • The basics of cargo securement
  • How to calculate the required cargo control
  • How different forces affect cargo
  • Understanding indirect vs. direct tie-downs
  • The 37 steps in a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) roadside inspection.

“For more nearly 55 years, Kinedyne LLC has been dedicated to providing better cargo securement, greater cargo capacity, and faster cargo access to the transportation industry,” says Roger Perlstein, Kinedyne vice president, sales and marketing. “Our free online training resources promote safety for drivers and the public.
